So, this being a blog, what has been going on in the world of Littleg? Well, not wanting to start on too much of a downer, but just about my favourite web series ever, GiantBomb's Endurance Run of Shin Mega Ten's Persona 4 has come to an end. As a way of sitting through a 100 hours+ of a downright bizarre Japanese RPG, I couldn't think of a better way of doing it, including sitting down and playing it myself. Persona 4 is precisely the kind of game that you'd never play with a friend, but with Vinnie and Jeff commenting, mocking and reacting to the plain pencils-up-nose bonkersness of the game, that's effectively what you got.
The final episode was something of an anti-climax, partially due to the game not having a particularly compelling ending (despite splitting up a group of young friends which it'd just spent the last 100 hours convincing you would die for each other) and partially the two GiantBomb guys being seemingly at a loss for what to say. That said, it will leave a big hole in my life representing, as it did, something that you could genuinely look forward to every day.
In other news, my pre-ordered copy of Halo: ODST (that's Orbital Drop Shock Trooper to you, try saying that five times fast with some whisky inside you) plopped onto my doormat earlier in the week. I won't say too much about it here as I'd like to write (or maybe even video) a proper review. As it is, I've only briefly sampled the (considerably different from previous Halos) campaign and have yet to try the game's other USP - Firefight, so I doubt I could do it justice.
Finally, in what appears to be a rather cheeky piece of one-upmanship the makers of the Gran Turismo and Forza Motorsport franchises have both released videos in tribute to the new Ferrari 458 Italia. And who could blame them, the car in question appears to have been fashioned out of a solid nugget of pure sex. I'll let you judge which company did a better job - this one or that one.
And finally finally, you'll have noticed that this first post here has been almost entirely videogame related. Well, there's two reasons for that:
- There is an awful lot going on video-games-wise over the next few months as the various publishers and developers ramp up for the 'holiday season', or 'Christmas' as those of us who don't work in marketing refer to it as.
- Games are pretty much the only aspect of my life that I'm getting any joy out of at the minute. Now, I don't want to moan, things could always be worse (as the genuinely horrifying and harrowing report on child prostitution in Kenya from tonight's Channel 4 new showed). But work is pretty tough and is taking up more time than it ever has before, home life pretty much rotates around solving issues relating to a house that I'm still not entirely convinced I'll like even once we finish all this work that we're doing to it and, to cap it all, our dog's skin allergies have flared up again, making sleep a fleeting and seldom-seen friend. In the midst of all that, videogames (and maybe eventually writing this blog) remain my one last bastion of being able to kick back and say a great big 'F**k you' to the world, and you can't put a price on that.
Not to worry though. There's joy in all things and soon this blog will take in world affairs, music, books, film, TV and all that other good stuff. Well, maybe.
Righty ho, it's definitely time for bed (most definitely as this is my second attempt at this post, the first having disappeared into the ether - lesson learnt, edit your text elsewhere before entering it into Blogger). Cheerio folks and remember, if something's boring you're just not looking at it right.
